New Survey Center reports spotlight dentists in private practice USA

Two reports from the 2002 Survey of Dental Practice examining the private practice of dentistry are now available from the ADA Survey Center.

The Income from the Private Practice of Dentistry report compiles data provided by private practitioners about the private practice of dentistry in 2000, including data from independent and solo dentists, new dentists and independent contractors on their income, hours worked, expenses, gross billings and other factors.

Independent general practitioners saw a 4 percent increase in average net income between 2000 and 2001 while independent specialists recorded an average increase of 5.4 percent, according to the report. In the same period, gross billings per owner from the primary private practice for all independent dentists grew by 9.7 percent.

The report, Characteristics of Dentists in Private Practice and Their Patients, examines practice size, census data by region, years in practice, patient populations and other characteristics for independent, solo and non-owner dentists and graduates in the last 10 years.

Each report is available for purchase for $50 for ADA members or $75 for non-member dentists. For more information on ordering either of these reports, contact the Survey Center toll-free at Ext. 2568 or on The Web.
